I had coolant leaking into my engine oil on a 97 Corsica with 150,000 miles. Symptoms of a blown head gasket. Did a lot of research on the Internet to help me fix the problem and I feel I should also reply to others looking for help. I used dura-seal head and block sealant. I said my prayers and followed their instructions. IT WORKS. I saved my car, repairs would have been $1600 plus dollars and who knows what other problems would have arose from replacing a head gasket. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the instructions is that if coolant leaked into the engine, flush the engine also to get rid of the contaminated oil. I just change the oil before adding the sealant, ran the engine(as per instructions) with the sealant added. After I flushed the coolant system, I also drained the oil again and this time replaced the filter and used synthetic oil to better protect any internal parts that could have been damaged by coolant in the engine. My engine tapping noise went away and so far(3 months) have not lost any coolant and oil looks nice and clean. I feel very fortunate I used this product. I must say I was skeptical, but other user feed back help me try it, that's why I am adding this feedback.

QUESTION: What makes Dura-Seal® Head Gasket Sealer different than Blu_ Devi_l, K-n-W, Thermogasket or Steal Seal sealers?
ANSWER: Dura-Seal® Head Gasket Repair Sealer is not a "water-glass" or "silicate-based" sealer like those other brands. So, our Dura-Seal® sealer never hardens or turns to glass.
QUESTION: Why is it so important not to use a water-glass based sealer like; Steal Seal, Blu_ Devil or Barz on engines with aluminum heads or blocks?
ANSWER: It's simple, aluminum expands and contracts 33% more then steel. Water-glass based sealers can't flex they harden to a glass-like state and crack away from the aluminum components during normal engine heat-up and cool-down phases. When the glass cracks off it begins to destroy the coolant system from the inside out. It would be the same as you chewing on a drinking glass and swallowing the shards. Not a good thing...
QUESTION: Ok, I understand Dura-Seal® is a better more advanced liquid sealer but are there any negative effects on my engine if I use the Dura-Seal® sealer?
ANSWER: Dura-Seal® is safe to use on all newer vehicles with aluminum components with no clogging of radiators or heater-cores because, our sealer is "Temperature Specific". Since we do not use water-glass as a base ingrediate in our sealer, we can custom configure the curing temperature of our sealer to your individual engines running temp at the head! That's why we have different formulas for different vehicles and engines. Water-glass based sealers like Barz, K-n-W, and Steal Seal all cure at exactly 210 degrees no matter where it is because 210 is the curing temperature of water-glass. Our Dura-Seal® is custom formulated for your engine and it's unique running temperature at the head area the day you order it, so it can only cure in the head area not the radiator, heater-core or thermostat. Drain coolant system and run clean water through entire system. This will remove most contaminates.
If you've used a water-glass/silicate based sealer prior to using Dura-Seal®, you will need to purchase and use our "Water-glass Flush Agent" before using our sealer.
It's not required to remove the thermostat during a Dura-Seal® repair as our sealer cannot cure or clog that area, but, if leftin, it will slow the repair process by restricting the flow when left in. Now, pour the Dura-Sealer, and Dura-
Seal® Extreme Packet into the radiator, (if no radiator cap) disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine and pour sealers into hose (they will empty into the radiator). Next, fill system with clean water to proper level. Be sure to top-off the overflow tank.
Idle engine for 20 minutes then turn off and let cool for 20 minutes, this is called a one run-cycle. You must do at least three run cycles. Next, drive vehicle on road for 20 minutes with sealers still in system. Then, drain the Dura-Seal® out, (it is not required to flush Dura-Seal out, just drain) and later refill with new coolant, water and Dura-Seal® Liquid-Ice. First-time applications have a 98% success rate. Only 2% require a second *free application, (*which is covered under warranty). Typical repair-life is 4 years.

If you're engine has aluminum cylinder heads or both the heads and engine block are aluminum then all other brands simply will not work for you. Why? It's simple chemistry, All other brands use "Sodium Silicate" also known as "water-glass" as their base ingredient. Water-glass actually turns hard and brittle when cured, it cannot expand or contract with the engine's aluminum parts so it simply cracks away.
